Salvador Recognized by the NHLPA
06 December 2007
The NHLPA recognized Bryce Salvador, The Hockey Academy of St. Louis' founder, the Player of the Day for his outstanding defensive contributions to the St. Louis Blues. Bryce has helped the Blues offensively as well, with seven points in the first 23 games. The NHLPA stated:

Last week’s Unsung Hero comes from one of the hottest teams of late and one of the biggest movers in the Western Conference compared to last year. After failing to qualify for the post-season in ’06, this week’s Unsung Hero has his club headed in the right direction (8-1-1 in their last 10). In three games last week, he averaged over 22 minutes a game and was among his club’s top 4 penalty killers, as the team went 2-1. He picked up points in all three games (4 assists) and finished +4. He dished out 2 hits and went the extra mile blocking 6 shots.

Bryce is having a tremendous start for the up-start St. Louis Blues. The Blues currently sit 4th in the Western Conference, and with a plus/minus rating of +15, Bryce is a big reason why St. Louis has gone 8-1-1 over their last 10 games. Bryce is also on pace for a career year offensively, with 7 points in his first 23 games.

Bryce picked up points in all three games, 4 assists total. He was +4 while averaging over 22 minutes a game. Dished out a couple of hits and got in front of 6 opposing shots.

Besides national attention for his solid play, Bryce also was recently recognized by the St. Louis Post-Dispatch for his outstanding play this year. Read the St. Louis Post-Dispatch article.

Tessier Prepares for the Draft
16 November 2007
This past summer, Kelsey Tessier joined Bryce Salvador and Jamal Mayers to train for the upcoming season in their Impact Hockey Training program at Hockey Academy of St. Louis. Kelsey also participated in our Pro Development Camp, and trained almost daily at the Hockey Academy this past summer. He always finished his workouts with close to 200 shots per day combining the Hockey Academy’s Rapid Shot lane with our “sniper’s alley” shooting lane.

With next year being Kelsey’s NHL Draft eligibility year, he trained with great intensity. The Hockey Academy wishes Kelsey the best of luck with the remainder of this season and in next year’s draft.

Mauldin Makes Name in AHL
8 November 2007
Hockey Academy Pro Development Camp and Impact Hockey Training participant Greg Mauldin is making a name for himself with the AHL’s Binghampton Senators. Greg, originally from the Boston, MA area, participated in our summer Pro Development camp and Bryce and Jamal’s “Impact Hockey Training” program. He holds the Academy’s current Pro/NHL record in Rapid Shot with a score of 505.1 points.

Many players who participated in the Hockey Academy’s Defense Academy this past summer witnessed Greg’s speed and unbelievable Stickhandling abilities. Greg was one of our Defense Academy coaches and gave graciously of his time to our local youth hockey players. All of us at Hockey Academy of St. Louis wish Greg the best of luck with his career. We hope we will have him back to train with us again next summer.

Dedicated To Getting Better
01 August 2007
As Director of Hockey Academy of St. Louis, I have been fortunate to train young hockey players and improve their individual hockey skills on a daily basis. What becomes so special to me is watching these players develop their skills and soon begin to develop a trusting relationship with our coaching staff. This bond is built on a foundation of trust as players recognize that we are truly committed to their welfare.

Drew Feldewerth
Every morning, during the summer, our facility is hustling with high end hockey players who know the special benefits of training here.  They experience how our training improves their game. Many NHL players, professional minor league players, Division 1 and 3 college players, Tier 1 US and Canadian Junior A players have all shared in this experience this summer.

Most recently, there has been a substantial amount of hockey players fulfilling their aspirations from the St. Louis hockey community, and I was preparing to write an article on some of these players until yesterday.

Yesterday, two brothers came in to train for their first time. The older brother, who is thirteen, handed me a thick white envelope filled with cash at registration. This young adolescent worked and earned his own money to pay for his training (understand…we are very accustomed to processing parents’ credit cards as method of payment). My inquiry began during the two boys’ training.

Drew Feldewerth was supporting his younger brother at Scottrade Center, during the NCAA Frozen Four. His brother Matt was competing in the Hardest Shot and Shot Accuracy Challenges at the Pontiac Frozen Four Youth Skill Challenge that Hockey Academy presented for all the young players in St. Louis. Drew researched the Hockey Academy of St. Louis on the web that evening and was determined that he would start the next day to begin improving his hockey skills for in two years he wants to play for his High School team as a Freshman. In late April, Drew began canvassing for small jobs around his neighborhood. He cut grass, cleaned a pool, cleaned up neighbors yards, got a job as a scorekeeper during spring and summer hockey games and saved his allowance. Now, I can only imagine how gratifying it must have been to Drew to hand over his white envelope.

I asked Drew’s mother, “What is your opinion of his greatest area of concern?” Now, I was probing for hockey skill specific answers and perhaps my question was not well verbalized. Her response was “safety”. The quick response took me, but considering maternal instincts, I understand mom’s answer. So, I continued to pursue his mother’s feelings about her son’s hockey. What do you think Drew’s primary weakness would be? Her response,“his coordination”.

What do you think Drew’s strength would be? Her response which was just as emphatic as the “safety” answer, “Drew’s will power to succeed”.

After Drew’s initial 90 minute training session at HA, I asked him, “How was your first day?” As most thirteen year old children would respond he was short. But with a huge smile, “Good, I learned a lot.”

When asked how often will we see you? Drew replied, “As much as I can, perhaps, twice a week.”
Later that same evening we received this e-mail from Drew’s father.

Hi Sean,

I just wanted to say thanks to you and Rick for last night’s session
with Drew and Matt.  Drew was on top of the world after attending his
first session.  He was so excited about the session and talking to you
and Rick.  He was already doing his “homework”.  He felt so good
about his potential.

Thanks again,
Don Feldewerth

Children all have stories, and we get to know these players very well. This is what makes working at HA so special. It is an everyday occurrence that we have the ability to elevate a child’s self esteem through teaching players to become better hockey players.
